A gorgeous original 19th century Blanket Box later painted in a turquoise / blue over rusty red and beige.
A perfect addition for any room where additional storage is needed. It can also be an ideal coffee table or window seat. They also make great boot room storage boxes to sit on while changes your muddy boots.
This is a typically well made solid pine blanket box with a strong structure and base.
Inside there is a full width compartment with 2 drawers beneath perfect for storing smaller objects. These would have originally been for storing candles.
It has a solid plinth base that sits directly on the floor so no dust can get beneath it making it easy to clean around. It has a sturdy metal drop handle to each side end making it easy to pick up and move.
The condition of the pine when I acquired it was in a bit of a mess and so keeping in line with its age and heavy use over its life I chose to paint this with a very heavy patina. I mixed green & blue pigments with rustic browns and creams for the colours on the top & sides and a burned orange pigment for the plinth base board and the bracket feet.
As with much of my work I followed the process of using original recipes to create the paint and processes to age the finish with lovely crackles and worn away areas leaving an authentic look and texture of paints from early 18th century or older.
The inside has a few marks and scrapes but has been thoroughly cleaned and waxed so is ready to use immediately.
