A gorgeous original 19th century Blanket Box later painted.
A perfect addition for any room where additional storage is needed. It can also be an ideal coffee table or window seat.
This is a typically well made solid pine blanket box with a strong structure and base.
Inside there is a full width compartment with 2 drawers beneath perfect for storing smaller objects. These would have originally been for storing candles.
It has 4 lovely bracket feet meaning it is raised slightly off the floor and has its original metal drop handles on each end making it easy to carry and move around.
The condition of the pine when i acquired it was in a bit of a mess and so keeping in line with its age and heavy use over its life I chose to paint this with a very heavy patina. I mixing green pigments with rustic browns and creams for the colours on the top & sides and a burned orange pigment for the plinth base board and the bracket feet.
As with much of my work I followed the process of using original recipes to create the paint and processes to age the finish with lovely crackles and worn away areas leaving an authentic look and texture of paints from early 18th century or older.
The inside has a few original marks and scrapes but has been thoroughly cleaned and waxed so is ready to use immediately.
